The Practicalities

When does the course run?

Development from the Inside is an intensive training course held every summer. The dates for the course are Mon 21st July . Fri 15th August 2008. The seminars and local project visits will all take place during the first two weeks of the course, and the third and fourth weeks will consist of NGO placements. If your time is limited, there is the option of skipping the third and/or fourth week of the course.

How much does it cost?

The cost of the course is £1050 for three or four weeks, or £750 for two weeks. This covers all your accommodation and food (at the Green Hotel and on project placements), and also transport to projects. The only extra costs you are likely to incur are for drinks and laundry, and for any shopping and sightseeing you choose to do.

How do I get there?

For flexibility you make your own travel arrangements. This enables you to explore the region before or after the programme. The nearest airport is Bangalore; you can also fly to Chennai (Madras) or Mumbai (Bombay).

How do I get a place?

Places on this course are limited, and demand is high. Interviews will be held in London (or, for those currently abroad, by phone) from March 2008.

Where will I be based?

Participants will be based at the award-winning Green Hotel in twin bedded rooms. Single rooms are available at a supplementary cost. The Green Hotel is a successful model of sustainable tourism combining environmentally aware practices with equal opportunities employment policies. All profits from the Green Hotel are distributed to charitable and environmental projects in India. Mysore enjoys a moderate climate. The weather tends to be pleasantly warm and showery in July and August.
