|
Why 'Development from the Inside'? Seminars will be led by Indian activists covering issues such as poverty, fair trade, activism, health, the environment and gender - all from the local perspective. We want the course to challenge stereotypes and preconceptions about poverty and development and to help redress the imbalance of power between the North and the South in development thinking. What will it do for me? The course is designed to help you develop a deeper understanding of development issues and give you practical experience with a project. The majority of opportunities for graduates in development are now based in the North as NGOs decentralise and establish partnerships with Southern NGOs. Development from the Inside will promote maturity and sensitivity and will help you to get one step ahead in the field. Will I get any practical experience? The third and fourth weeks of the course will be mainly spent on placement with a local NGO or project, giving you hands-on experience and a unique opportunity to learn. Placements will be available in many areas, including education, literacy, community health care, and working with slum dwellers. We will endeavour to place you with a suitable NGO or project according to your experience and interests. |
